My First Guitar

On Friday Oct 9th, I finally bought myself a guitar after for a long while that thought just buried inside my head. I picked the cheapest one Yamaha C315 priced at 400K and managed to bought it for 375K at Irama Mas. Firstly I went to Prima Nada but too bad they didn't have any beginner's guitar for sale there. Then I went to Yamaha Pucang where I found what I want, but apparently they didn't give me any close-to-not-bad service. I asked "Can you show me a guitar for a beginner?" The shopkeeper pointed at a guitar and said "There, you can go and find it hanging there." Then I looked at the guitar she pointed, I look at the price it was written 375K and then ask her again "Is there anyone that can explain to me the difference between each model here in the price list?" And she replied "Oh, our men are all gone to have a sholat maghrib, you can just wait until they return." And there I waited for 10 minutes with no one bothering to ask me or just to show me around. And then I left the shop and I went to Irama Mas. The guy there was kind enough to explain to me the difference between each guitar they had in the store. And finally I picked the cheapest one after doing several bids, and have the shopkeeper help me tune the guitar.

Happy enough to have my first guitar, I tried to play C chord. It didn't sound the way I expected. It seems that the string still need to be tuned several times until it sound perfectly, but since I couldn't tune it myself yet, I gave up. I was down. I went to komsel and brought my guitar and was helped by Ko Ed and JoJo. But after I brought it back home again, the C chord still didn't sound as it should be. I was down, again. Then after laying on my bed for some time, an idea came up to me. I used my BlackBerry and googled around to find a guitar tuner software for blackberry. There is one available, but it is just for BlackBerry 9530 aka Storm. Damn! Still "ga terimo" I fired up my laptop, plug my phone line to the analog modem connection on my laptop (I did this because I stopped my Telkomsel Flash subscription), and used the good old Telkomnet Instan. I finally found three softwares, and only one that worked excellently for me. It is Pitch Perfect Musical Instrument Tuner. I just pick any string on my guitar, and it showed the key of a string and the frequency of a string picked compared to the frequency of a string should be. Cool! Then I played C chord. Yippie!! I got my first C chord on my guitar!! Not long after that I kept playing until 3 o'clock. The first song I played is one such romantic old song taught by Ko Menlu when I was at Jakarta.

Well, I dunno why I picked guitar. Maybe I just want to have some fun while gaining new skill. But I think that Guitar would help me escape from my hectic thought about "whys". And, there is several people that I would to thank them for being my inspiration and managed to bring out my delicacy taste of music thus make my heart dance in the cry of joy. They are Andhika CW, Agus Wiro, Valen, JoJo, Ko Ed and Ko Menlu. Guys! Thanks!! Well still a long way to go...

To spin off Valen's quote she adds in her blog posts:
The song you play today, will often be complained. Play it anyway!
